Creative brief

Overview:

I'm a new employee at Sapna (India's largest book mall). Sapna has newly entered the online book sales market. I'm trying to convince my superiors to adopt the Goodreads-Amazon business model for Sapnaonline.

COVID-19 forced bookshops to go online. SAPNA had a tough quarter and has organized a competition open to employees for new business ideas.

The proposal studies the Goodreads-Amazon dynamic and is an interactive argument for the proposed business model with its details.

Publisher: Notion public page.

Audience:

The regional manager will judge the first round. If approved, I will present my ideas to the managing directors of Sapna. The regional manager is open to suggestions and takes new employees seriously.

Tone:

I will have to sound respectful and insightful. The regional manager is flexible about details but tough to convince.

Message:

Sapna has a wealth of Indian works and even won the Karnataka Rajyostava Award in 2008 for being the largest Kannada book publisher.

Sapna's website uses embedded Goodreads reviews to sell books. But Goodreads has a predominantly English catalog. Sapna sells books online now and has a competitive edge in the regional literature market. It could thoroughly benefit from an Indian Goodreads-like user base.

This piece explores the incentives of gathering an online community of Indian readers for a successful book-seller like Sapna.

Details:

Competition rules:

  1. Format: Business idea proposal backed with an explanation.
  2. Sapna is a family-owned business, and the revenue statements aren't openly available. The winners will have access to these numbers on selection. (This rules out any charts showing Sapna's growth)
  3. The regional manager selects five winners in the first round of screening. Winners will present to the managing directors.
